Kimili Flash Embed 2.0.1 - For Real!
18 Jan 09
I’m happy to announce that last night I pushed Kimili Flash Embed 2.0.1 live! Utilizing SWFObject 2.1 and taking advantage of all that it has to offer, this new version represents a major overhaul of KFE – in fact, it has been completely rewritten from the ground up. Gone are some of the madding weak points of the 1.x version of the plugin—Wordpress 2.7 incompatibilities and Textpattern Legacy and Current SWFObject modes among them. New to KFE 2 are a number of things that will make working with SWFs on your site much easier, such as:
- An integrated tag generator to help you build KFE tags easily.
- Configuration options
- A super easy way to define alternate content for your SWFs.
- All of the newest Flash Player parameters, such as
seamlesstabbingandallownetworkingare available.
By the way, in case you’re curious, 2.0.1 is the first proper release of the KFE 2.0 branch—it really should be 2.0. Some troubles I had with the way the Wordpress Plugin Directory during this version’s development and how it handles versioning necessitated the bump in version numbers to keep Wordpress’ auto plugin updating in sync. Consequently, no KFE 2.0.0 for Textpattern exists.
On another note, this version represents the first time Kimili Flash Embed is localizable. I’ve released it with just US English for now, but if anyone reading this would be willing to do a translation, please contact me. You’d be doing a great service by helping the community of plugin users who speak your language.
Go ahead, check out all the details and download it on the Kimili Flash Embed homepage.

great update. i’m having trouble with the flashvar. i was able to grab the variable fine using ${getQueryParamValue(‘page_id’);} but now the entire code is passed into flash rather than the page_id.

I have been working with the slideshowpro flash component with great success for about a year now integrating it into various cms driven sites. Lately I brought up an instance of Wordpress MU at the listed site. I read about the kimili plugin and started using it immediately. Works perfectly where ever I want in a post, text sidebar widget etc. How come when I navigate to another page on the site with the same widgets in the right column the swf goes away?
Also, as a note – somewhere in here I saw a reference that someone wanted to embed a hyperlink in a swf. This works seamlessly for any image or video within a ssp album.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Thank you for this really slick plugin for Wordpress. I’m trying to add a thumbnail to the beginning of my movie. Is there an easy way to do that?
Thank you,
Sage

Sage – that’d be a function of the player swf you’re using to play the movie. Most players allow you to set a poster frame or a still frame, and that’s what you’re looking for. KFE can’t do it for you.

hi michael,
wow, thanks for the quick answer.
i checked the file in the main blog i am working on, and it works, but only if i put the swf movies inside the images folder of my wordpress theme.
ok, i understand, that i can’t embed a swf in the css directly, but how can i embed it as a background of an widget or in the header itself.
i guess i have to change my function.php, but can you give me a little hint how to?
here’s the link to the blog:
